چکیده
Title of the Study RANDOMIZED STUDY TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECTS ON GROWTH AND THE SAFETY OF THE TREATMENT WITH RECOMBINANT GROWTH HORMONE IN 1 TO 2-YEAR-OLD CHILDREN WITH GROWTH RETARDATION DUE TO CHRONIC KIDNEY FAILURE Investigator(s) Multicenter Coordinator: Dr. Fernando Santos Investigating Center(s) Multicenter Coordinating center: Hospital Central de Asturias, Oviedo Publications Study Period January 1998 to September 2005 Phase IV Objectives Growth retardation due to chronic renal failure. Methodology Stratified, randomized, open-label study, in parallel and comparative with a control group without treatment Number of expected and analyzed subjects y 16 children have been included in the study. One patient is eliminated from the intent-to-treat (ITT) analysis due to abandoning the study before the first follow-up visit and because no postbaseline data was available, although this patient was included in the safety analysis Diagnosis and Main Inclusion Criteria Children with growth retardation (height ≤ -2 SDS for chronological age and sex and rate of growth in height < P50 for chronological age and sex) due to chronic renal failure (glomerular filtration rate ≤ 60 ml/min./1.73 m). Product under study, dose and method of administration, batch numbers rhGH. One daily dose of rhGH (0.33 mg/kg/week) administered subcutaneously between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m..

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of growth hormone on growth parameters such as Z scores for height, weight, and body mass index (BMI), and height velocity in two groups of children with chronic renal failure (CRF) treated with and without growth hormone. Methods: This longitudinal study was conducted on all children aged 6 months to 16 years with a short ...
متن کاملThe Role of Growth Hormone on Growth of Children with Cystic Fibrosis
Dear Editor,In spite of recent advances in treatment of infection and emphasis on adequate nutritional intake, patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) frequently have less than ideal body weight and adults are often shorter than their target height.1Owing to a state of relative growth hormone (GH) insensitivity, the anabolic and growth promoting effects of recombinant human GH (rhGH) treatment have ...
متن کاملTherapeutic Effects of Recombinant Growth Hormone in Improving the Growth of Thalassemia Major Patients: A Retrospective Study
Background and purpose: Beta thalassemia major is one of the most common inherited blood diseases and patients with this condition require regular blood transfusions. The resulting iron overload deposition causes endocrine gland disorders, including growth hormone (GH) abnormality. In this study, we examined the effects of recombinant growth hormone (rGH) in these patients. Materials and metho...
متن کاملPapillary Carcinoma of Thyroid Gland in a Patient Treated with Recombinant Growth Hormone
The first successful treatment of growth hormone (GH) deficient children with GH extracted from human pituitary was introduced during late 1950's. The subsequent availability and use of recombinant GH (rhGH) for different clinical conditions raised the question of whether this new therapeutic modality increases the risk of certain conditions such as leukemia or malignancy. Herein, we report o...
متن کاملComparison of the growth hormone, oxandrolone, letrozole and anastrozole’s impact on the height increase in children and adolescents with idiopathic short stature (ISS): a systematic review and meta-analysis
Background: Short children face many problems throughout their lives. Consumption of growth hormone and the drugs such as Letrozole, Oxandrolone, and Anastrozole can increase the growth of children and adolescents. There is not an overall estimate of the effects of Letrozole, Oxandrolone, and Anastrozole on the growth of children and adolescents with Idiopathic Short Stature (ISS). There are di...
